The WHALER 2-Slot Black is not made from naturally black wood.
It is crafted from solid North American walnut, finished using a black dyeing process inspired by Meok (墨), the traditional black medium used in East Asian calligraphy and painting.
Like Meok, the color does not sit on the surface. It penetrates the material, allowing tone and depth to form from within.
Rather than coating the wood, the black finish is absorbed along the grain, so the grain remains visible.
Depth emerges within the black. -
GRAIN REVEALED BY LIGHT, DEPTH FORMED IN BLACK
Depending on lighting and viewing angle, the natural grain of walnut subtly appears beneath the black surface.
This is not the result of covering the material, but of coloring it in a way that respects its structure.

The 2-slot Black edition does not use brass components. Instead, stainless steel is applied to maintain tonal balance with the black surface.

The Black edition offers a choice for the interior bottom.

This display case is amazingly beautiful. Very well crafted, gorgeous wood, and super functional. It’s the perfect storage and display case for my daily wear watch collection. I love everything about it, from the see-through glass to the way the watches glide towards you when the box is opened, to how the watches stay on the stick pads and how the bracelets are not stressed as with other pillow type cases. It is a piece of functional art that matches the beauty of the timepieces within it. This is the best watch case I’ve ever seen.

Truly a perfect watch box. The design, materials and construction are nearly flawless, but what’s more is that I admire it every time i look at, or walk by, it. It’s beautiful, but not pretentious like most boxes out there. The only thing I would change is to make the little grip-pads thicker so that smaller diameter watches would make better contact - nothing you can’t change to suit your needs once it’s in your hands, but I see no downside for thicker pads straight out of the gate.

Case is beautiful. First impresion and opening for first time was amazing
First off, the case arrived in great condition. No chips, cracks or blemishes on the product. For coming from so far away, I was happy to see how well it was cared for along the way. The product itself is exactly what I was looking for. A somewhat different take on the traditional pillow-based box. I love the presentation the watches have when put into the box. You can see them from across the room. The movement when opening the door and presenting the watches is smooth and graceful; no snags or anything like that. It's a well designed and engineered product.
This is a beautifully crafted product and the online pictures just don't do it sufficient justice. If you have collectible watches this is a perfect complimentary display case. In my case, I liked it so much I went back and bought a second.

The product looks premium and well-made, with a unique design; delivery takes a couple of weeks, but I was notified about late shipping during the ordering process, so I have no objections there. The price might not be justifiable (e.g. ordering a product from Europe adds another 55 eur for tax/customs fees), making the total quite costly.
Overall design is very nice and well built but I noticed that the turning is not very smooth at some turns.
I will not fully fault you for everything that you saw on the picture but there is a high chance that the logistic company not handling the package with care. However, the front casing was not sticking well, I have to glue it myself. It is disappointing considering the money that I paid.
